Interesting treatment on person with Lyme – balancing fascinating pulses after spinal tap

I’d like to share this interesting pulse diagnosis and treatment case study with you. This is a good case to show the importance of not using point prescriptions but being open to trying new points and/or combinations.

This is a man in his 30s with lyme who is always trying different (and sometimes extreme) treatments.

He is faithful with his treatments so I see him regularly. This time I felt stagnation/congestion/knottiness at the top (middle to superficial) of the St/Sp/Earth position. Naturally I asked how his digestion was doing. He said “good.” I always believe myself when taking the pulses so I continued to think about what could be going on because the pulse was showing some imbalance. It turns out that 4 days prior, he had had a spinal tap. I realized that directly from the front of his body (abdomen) to his back was where the spinal tap was performed and that’s exactly where that pulse position would be detecting an issue in the physical body. His pulse was showing me the resulting stagnation from the spinal tap in that area of the back/spine.

The pulses not only measure channel and organ activity but also where things are happening in the physical body.

First things first: the “trauma” was on the spine so I opened the Du Mai. I needled St 40 and LI 6 (Luo points) to help spread the qi/energy/blood from middle (Earth) to distal (Metal) positions. Good change. Next I had to think about what else would support the free flow of qi through the spine and spread it to the body. I chose to do the kidney channel K4, K16, and K27. These points made quite a nice change in the pulses balancing them nicely so that was the entire treatment.

Sometimes more is more and sometimes less is more. This was a case where a relatively simple, not very needle intensive treatment made the pulses change dramatically.
